we're starting practices, run throughs, whatever you call it- we've done it!
but mostly we've been trying to spend as much time as possible together before our teams have to split up!
sunday we went to church, and participated in this really cool thing, a commissioning prayer i think? anyways, the church prayed over us and basically "blessed" our service for the summer. kind of like the church was sending us off to go serve. it was a lot cooler than i just described. haha
then we had a little bit of a shorter sabbath time, but beth ann, john and i went into auburn, grabbed some lunch, went on a walmart run to get supplies to make our awesome name shirts (which i'll have to post a picture of later), and then to this infamous auburn store, kinnucans, where i got $30 toms. yes, $30!! i could not pass up that opportunity. haha
then we just basically spent the rest of the day planning, planning, planning!
monday we again did all of our planning things, but then had a free night! which turned out to be super fun! we bought food and had a cookout and played beach volleyball in this little park. it was a lot of fun! and then afterward we made some awesome tie dye pillowcases, which i will also have to post a picture of, and just sat up and talked!
finally, today we did some major cleaning of the house and packed up to leave for livingston! so now i am officially at the southern sportsman lodge for the rest of the summer! but i already miss the other half of our staff dearly :(
but, i am excited to finally be here and get rolling for the teams coming soon!
on another note, although i am far from home, i feel like this staff is definitely becoming my family for the summer, but also that my family is right here with me.
my co-construction coordinator, christina, reminds me so much of jenn. they look nothing alike, but they have the same mannerisms, listen to the same music, have the same humor, everything. and it's awesome because i feel like i have another older sister here with me to take her place while we're apart this summer.
also, on monday during our fun night, we were playing volleyball and it was getting a little dark, and fireflies started coming out. this is a big deal for a florida girl like me. haha. anyways, of course i went to go try and catch one, and i couldn't help but think back to catching fireflies at my pop pop and geemas (my grandpa and grandmas) farm in georgia when i was little. and it just got me thinking about my pop pop and how much i miss him. and a little part in me just thought of him looking down on me here in alabama and working for ARM, and knowing that he would be proud of what i was doing. and making my pop pop proud is exactly what i want to do in life. now, every time i see a firefly, i know my pop pop is looking down on me from heaven :)
this summer is all about my faith, family, and friends in so many different ways.
:)
